“ We came to realize that the way you imagine us is a reflection of how you see yourselves. ”

— A Cyber-Cuscuta Manifesto by Regina Kanyu Wang

Human is the one who created all the technologies but now, it seems like they are getting control us. Everyday we consume information from the internet, just like what Cyber-Cuscuta do. We view, listen, and read various contents on the internet then we are influenced by all the contents we consumed.

“ What were your fears? Comprehending that you yourselves were copying each other, with very little originality? ”

It’s undeniable that we are imitating we saw online in some way. Nowadays, online trends spread so fast. Anything could be viral in a day, it will be arrived on millions of people’s screens. Then when something is becoming viral, soon there will be imitated by someone else, repeat and repeat until the new trend beats it up. Like Tiktok, one of the most popular application these days. On Tiktok you can see everyone is dancing to the same songs that currently on trend with the same choreography that someone just made it up.

The way Cyber-Cuscuta speak sound like they are overpowering human. “ You need us just like we need you. ”, they said. It seems that it’s true and will become stronger in the next generation.

The two children were in hysterics. They screamed and pranced and threw things. They yelled and sobbed and swore and jumped at the furniture.

“You can’t do that to the nursery, you can’t!”

— The Veldt by Ray Bradbury

If the nursery in the fiction represent technology like smartphone, the scene is common for many family in these days. The parents usually spoil their children with the latest technology as entertainment because it is easier for them to let their children focus on those devices so they can do their things. Unknowing that those technology can lead their children to the whole world of information and it won’t stop provide interesting and exciting content. Children are easier to manipulate and as long as they are raised by electronic devices the kids tend to lack of emotion like in The Veldt, Wendy and Peter have no feeling for their parents and finally murder them with no remorse when they want to shut down the nursery.
